Two missing front teeth beautifully restored

After smashing my two front teeth out when i was seven i had experienced nothing but pain and embarrassment. I had very dodgy crowns during my teenage years and 2 surgical operations to remove infection that was now in the upper palette of my mouth. I visited many dentists all of which found my case out of their depth. When one of my crowns began to fail my current local dentist who was an oral surgeon suggested an implant. I obviously had to agree but here is where I should have got a second opinion. I trusted in somebody I shouldn’t have. After very inadequate, incompetent and outrageously expensive treatment both my front teeth were missing. I had now totally lost all confidence in myself and dentists.

However my luck began to change after a search engine lead me to White. Here was a website with Testimonials’ and a free initial consultation! I was very apprehensive but had watched 10 years younger before so was aware that there were very talented and capable dentists out there!  My experience from then on has been life changing and reinstalled my faith in professionalism. The whole team is consistent, approachable and incredibly friendly. I had a treatment plan (which didn’t change) and opted for the interest free finance.  My dental work has been very extensive including a bone graft but it’s been worth it!

Dr Ben White is a true Genius!

Look at my smile,

Beautiful White Smiles

A huge thank you to our amazing patients who took part in our latest White Photo Shoot.  You are all so fabulous!

It was a glorious summer’s day in Hamble, near Southampton when we went down to the water’s edge, to the yachts and the infamous Hamble Pink Ferry, and had our photos taken to celebrate our lovely White Smiles.

We have all had an variety of dental treatments: implants,”train tracks” (fixed orthodontics) invisalign, crowns, veneers, tooth whitening……. but have one thing in common. We have all received dental treatment, at White, from Dr Ben White and we are delighted with our great teeth and smiles.

“Envision” your beautiful new smile at White

Many people come to White with the hope we can transform their smiles.  Many of us spend years hiding our teeth from others or refusing to have our pictures taken in family photos. Our concerns about our smiles may leave us feeling less confident about speaking to others. Whatever our reasoning behind having cosmetic dentistry undertaken we all have an image of what we would like our smiles to look like. At White, you can see your dream smile before the treatment begins with a cosmetic imaging software called Envision.

Simply, book a free cosmetic consultation with us (we are based not far from Southampton) and we can “envision” your perfect smile to help you to decide if cosmetic dentistry is for you.

What is a Dental Implant?

What is a dental implant?

Dental Implants are a great way to replace missing teeth. They look and feel just like the originals. Not only are they used to help people who wish to improve the appearance of their teeth they also help people who have problems with tooth functionality. Recently a man came to White for a free consultation. He had lost the majority of his teeth through gum disease. He rarely smiled but more importantly he could not eat every day foods without pain and some foods he could not eat at all.  After having implants placed he is a changed man. He smiles with confidence and is now able to eat any food he chooses, even an apple.

So what are dental implants? An implant is a small titanium screw that is inserted into the jawbone to replace the root of missing tooth or teeth.  A crown is put onto the implant. There are many advantages to having implants. Unlike dentures there is no slippage or movement plus there is no need to touch any of the surrounding teeth to secure the implant into the mouth unlike bridgework or partial dentures. Also dental implants will help to maintain the shape and structure of the jawbone because when teeth are missing the bone begins to shrink.  They are durable, strong and look great.

Groom to be needs a new tooth.

Congratulations to my lovely sister in law (named “Auntie Ju Ju” by our gorgeous children) who has recently been proposed to by her equally lovely boyfriend, Craig (”Caig”). We have been waiting such a long time for these two to get engaged and now they are set to marry in April. Yippee! A fabulous spring wedding, except there is one slight problem (most of the concern coming from the bride!). Her dashing fiance is missing a front tooth. Ahhhhhh…….. Luckily, for both the bride and groom they are surrounded by DENTISTS, one of which specialises cosmetic dentistry and dental implants. Before they can say “i do” Craig will have a dental implant fitted which looks and feels just like the tooth that he lost and all will be well in the Parsons/White household.

At White we have lots of people who make cosmetic enquiries (Invisalign, tooth whitening, veneers, implants)  just before a special occasion, such as getting married. If you are getting married, or simply would like to change your smile, my advice to you is don’t leave it too late. There are lots of things that we can do to help you but there are many more treatments available if we have more time in which to transform a smile.

I will keep you posted on Craig’s treatment as the wedding comes nearer. For now, we need to put a temporary tooth in place for all those engagement photos.

Something to smile about……..

I went into the practice today and was told that a lady had come in for a free consultation. She wanted some cosmetic dentistry as she really did not like the appearance of her teeth. After a long chat, over a cup of tea, in the consultation room she was given a treatment plan which comprised of a number of options, Invisalign, implants, veneers, crowns and tooth whitening. She recognised that this was what she needs to have to achieve the look that she is after but other obstacles were preventing this from happening. So she decided to think about the treatment plan given to her as she needed to mull over the options.

The interesting thing is that she decided to have treatment elsewhere even though she said that “she will have to compromise on the treatment” and go to a practice within her budget and closer proximity to home.  Obviously, we felt disappointed as we really wanted to give her a smile that she was proud of but we could not compromise on her treatment. It would have been great to say “don’t worry, we can forget about this, and use a cheaper lab and cheaper materials” to make it within her budget, but sadly we cannot. The reason being is that we are extremely proud of the high level of dental work that we do. Invariably, if you cut corners, use cheaper laboratories and materials…… then the end result will not be the same. We use an excellent laboratory that hand-crafts porcelain crowns, we use the best materials, plus we have a highly skilled dentist who has vast experience in placing implants and performs complex procedures such a sinus and bone grafts. After three years of additional training, on top of two previous intensive implant courses, he has almost completed an MSC in implantology.  We could not compromise on our integrity.

Although, we did not get to see this lady smile with confidence she gave us something to smile about and we are very grateful to her. The thing that touched us was that she said that having been in our practice she had “seen the best” and knows what it looks like. After worrying that we had done wrong in some way just a few kind words from this lady reassured us that she could not find fault with the service and treatment that we offer to potential patients. That we are providing a service to be proud of, it just was not right for her at this moment in her life.

So, if our kind of dentistry is the kind that you are interested in, feel free to come and meet us.  Come and have a cup of tea and a chat to see if White is right for you as we would like to give you something to smile about.

How much do we all know about teeth?

Ben’s parents are dentists. In fact I am surrounded by dentists and a variety of people who love to talk about teeth, smiles, dental implants, whitening etc. This is why it was so very amusing a couple of weeks ago to attend “Whites” Summer staff BBQ (held in the rain, of course!) and to be given a dental quiz. Their competitive natures kicked in and everyone was trying to find the most knowledgeable partner at the party.  They were expecting really gritty dental questions but instead we had questions such as what colour is the most popular toothbrush and how many teeth does a snail have? Such trivia. But, did you know that a snail’s mouth is no bigger than a pin head but can have over 25,000 teeth. Could you imagine brushing all of those teeth every day? You would never be able to follow the British Dental Health Association’s “two minutes, twice as day”. You would be there all day, every day just cleaning your teeth. Imagine, if you lost a tooth “Don’t worry, as i have 24,999 teeth left”.  But we are not snails and we do not have an extraordinary amount of teeth. Once we lose our adult teeth, that is that! Well, until the invention to dental implants. Hurrah!

I had orthodontics when I was younger. The dentist removed two of my healthy adult teeth and put “train tracks” on. It was terrible. I had so many problems. Not only did my teeth look horrible, they sloped backwards and I was left with pounding headaches. Today, I have people telling me that I have lovely teeth, they have been straightened, my occlusion sorted out (this means that my bite has improved), no more headaches and two dental implants to replace my missing teeth. To finish I was treated to an hour’s worth of Zoom tooth whitening. I am very lucky to be married to a dental surgeon who has restored my faith in dentistry and given me a fabulous smile. I have changed from a person who never showed my teeth when having a photo taken to someone who smiles with complete confidence. Lucky me. I am extremely grateful.  Ben may not know how many teeth a snail has but he certainly knows how to help people to look after their teeth and gums and if you wanted to change your smile then perhaps he could help you too.

White continued professional development for dental implants

Lisa and Beccie have recently been on a dental implant course for nurses which was an excellent way to introduce Beccie to implant treatment. Beccie is new to the practice and has nursed for several years but has never had the opportunity to carry out implant treatment until now. For Lisa it was a good way to keep up to date with any required changes in the procedures we follow. At White we are very committed to continuing professional development so our patients can feel confident that we are providing excellent treatment and care.

A new front tooth for a Shirley patient after having a dental implant

We have recently seen a patient for a Free Consultation, he wanted our help to replace a missing front tooth. The patient was involved in an accident several years ago and has had enough of his bridge falling out, he didn’t want a denture. We have placed the dental implant and very soon he will have a natural looking crown and no more worries about his bridge falling out in public!

A comfortable lower denture for a Calmore gentleman after having dental implants

A patient from Calmore was referred to White by his dentist requesting we help to give him a comfortable lower denture. He found his denture very loose and eating was difficult. At his free consultation Dr White suggested placing 4 dental implants and a new denture that would fit securely to the implants, which would enable him to eat well with no movement. We have now completed his treatment and he says it was the best thing he has done and wished he came to us a lot sooner.
