How much do we all know about teeth?

Ben’s parents are dentists. In fact I am surrounded by dentists and a variety of people who love to talk about teeth, smiles, dental implants, whitening etc. This is why it was so very amusing a couple of weeks ago to attend “Whites” Summer staff BBQ (held in the rain, of course!) and to be given a dental quiz. Their competitive natures kicked in and everyone was trying to find the most knowledgeable partner at the party.  They were expecting really gritty dental questions but instead we had questions such as what colour is the most popular toothbrush and how many teeth does a snail have? Such trivia. But, did you know that a snail’s mouth is no bigger than a pin head but can have over 25,000 teeth. Could you imagine brushing all of those teeth every day? You would never be able to follow the British Dental Health Association’s “two minutes, twice as day”. You would be there all day, every day just cleaning your teeth. Imagine, if you lost a tooth “Don’t worry, as i have 24,999 teeth left”.  But we are not snails and we do not have an extraordinary amount of teeth. Once we lose our adult teeth, that is that! Well, until the invention to dental implants. Hurrah!

I had orthodontics when I was younger. The dentist removed two of my healthy adult teeth and put “train tracks” on. It was terrible. I had so many problems. Not only did my teeth look horrible, they sloped backwards and I was left with pounding headaches. Today, I have people telling me that I have lovely teeth, they have been straightened, my occlusion sorted out (this means that my bite has improved), no more headaches and two dental implants to replace my missing teeth. To finish I was treated to an hour’s worth of Zoom tooth whitening. I am very lucky to be married to a dental surgeon who has restored my faith in dentistry and given me a fabulous smile. I have changed from a person who never showed my teeth when having a photo taken to someone who smiles with complete confidence. Lucky me. I am extremely grateful.  Ben may not know how many teeth a snail has but he certainly knows how to help people to look after their teeth and gums and if you wanted to change your smile then perhaps he could help you too.

A wonderful White wedding!

Most of our patients were aware that our dental nurse, Lisa, got married on 23rd April in Lyndhurst. It was a wonderful day and she looked stunning, the weather was also fantastic which made the day even better. There are some great pictures which show off her lovely smile, thanks to Ben’s orthodontic skills. Not only was it a good day for Lisa and Darren but it was also a good opportunity for us all to socialise outside of work.

Bishops Waltham lady has a white smile for her wedding after Zoom whitening treatment.

A lady from Bishops Waltham had orthodontic treatment at White a few years ago and after her treatment she remained a regular patient with us. Now she has straight teeth she wanted to complete her smile by having her teeth whitened for her wedding at the end of April. We have used the Zoom whitening system on her and she now has the perfect white smile for her wedding photos.

A beautiful smile for a Sholing lady with Invisalign Express

A young lady from Sholing was referred to White for a Free Consultation to discuss the alignment of her front teeth. She used to suck her thumb as a child and was fitted with fixed orthodontics (train tracks) when she was younger but over time the teeth gradually moved at the front. At her consultation Dr White suggested she could have Invisalign Express treatment as this would correct the position of her front teeth in a short period of time. Very few people even noticed she was wearing her invisible braces and in only 5 months she had lovely straight front teeth.

A new smile for a Netley gentleman after having orthodontic treament, whitening and veneers.

A gentleman from Netley came to White hoping we could repair his front tooth after having a sports injury. He had fractured a large part of the tooth so we placed a veneer to correct the problem. Initially we placed a temporary veneer as he decided to straighten his teeth first and have his teeth whitened before fitting the final veneer. He now has a smile which is much improved and has given him more confidence.

Hedge End lady has orthodontic treatment to straighten her teeth in time for her wedding

Lady from Hedge End came to White for a Free Consultation to discuss straightening her teeth before her wedding. She is happy with the appearance of her top teeth but is self conscious about the overcrowding on the lower and feels it is visible when she smiles. Dr White fitted a fixed appliance (train tracks) on the lower and she will complete treatment in time for the wedding.

A new smile for a Bishop’s Waltham lady after having braces, dental implants, tooth whitening and new crowns.

A lady from Bishop’s Waltham came to White as she was tired of getting problems from her old fillings and also wanted to discuss the option of replacing her missing teeth. We made a suggestion of having orthodontic treatment first to correct her bite, followed by tooth whitening, crowns and implants. Initially she was concerned that 57 was too old to have braces, however once we started treatment her toothache resolved, which she had suffered with for sometime. Feeling completely confident with Dr White she allowed him to fit her braces. After 2 years she now has natural looking teeth and is able to bite, chew and smile with confidence, which she has said “is worth every penny!”

West End lady gains perfect smile from orthodontic treatment and dental implants

A lady from West End, Southampton has been wearing a plate since she was 18 (over 30 years). She had four front teeth missing and came to White with a view to having dental implants but decided to take Dr White’s advice on having orthodontic treatment first to correct her bite. Due to cosmetic reasons she would only ever take her plate out to clean which resulted in constant infections in the roof of her mouth. Although it took 2 years to carry out her treatment she is so pleased to have lost her awful plate and has gained a perfect smile. Her only regret was not coming to see us sooner.
